Dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) is an a scanner used in situations where regular dental or facial x-rays may not be sufficient. The CT scanner generates three dimensional (3-D) images of soft tissues, dental structures, nerve paths and bone in a single scan. The CT scan rotates 360-degrees while capturing multiple images from different angles that are reconstructed to create a single 3-D image that provides valuable information about your oral and craniofacial health.
Images obtained with cone beam CT allow for more precise treatment planning. Dental cone beam CT is commonly used for treatment planning of orthodontic cases, surgical planning for impacted teeth, diagnosing and evaluating temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), planning for dental implant placement, diagnosing pain and detecting jaw tumors, evaluation of the jaw, sinuses, nerve canals, nasal cavity, bone structure and tooth orientation.
